Stepka (Croatian) or Buttermilk is a by-product of butter production. The very name of buttermilk indicates it is the liquid that is leftover after churning the butter.
Although it comes from butter, buttermilk contains only 1% milk fat, which is especially desirable given that more and more people are struggling with being overweight and looking for alternative foods. Our buttermilk contains all lactose proteins (casein and whey proteins), lactose, vitamins (of the B complex), minerals and high quality essential lactic acids. A number of studies have shown that buttermilk contributes to the prevention and treatment of breast and colon cancer, multiple sclerosis and in lowering blood cholesterol. In addition, it also stimulates liver recovery after excessive consumption of alcohol or medication.
Buttermilk is a very refreshing, protein-rich beverage that is consumed chilled which makes it a perfect refreshment in the summer. It can be consumed by itself, as a substitute for yoghurt or milk, with cereals, for making various smoothies and shakes, soups, bread and pastries. It is a favorite among athletes because of its low-fat content and high protein content, thus making it ideal for muscle recovery and increasing the muscle mass.
Due to the continued rise of malignancies and diseases of the cardiovascular systems, daily consumption of buttermilk would certainly improve the health and condition of your body and prevent the continuation of those dark statistics.
